Ordering Quilts

Where to begin?

When choosing a Wholecloth Heirloom quilt there are many variables to consider.  We have laid out each choice in a way that makes this a simple and enjoyable process.  Let us know if you have any additional questions.  We have also added a detailed Quilt Construction link if you are interested in the details of how these beautiful quilts are made.

Choosing Design and Size

The first choice for you to make, after deciding where (or to whom) the quilt will go, is what design do you like.   See Gallery for a few samples, please contact us to see the currently available styles.  Once you have selected the size and design, the next step is to choose your fabric and thread options.

Choosing Fabric

We have selected top quality, 100% cotton fabrics in white, light natural, and cream.  While choosing the color, keep in mind that this will dominate the flavor of the quilt.   White fabric tends to absorb the colors of the thread, creating a more subtle effect on a bright background while the light natural and cream fabrics allow the thread colors to stand out more with a more neutral background.

Choosing Thread

Once the fabric color is chosen, the next step is the thread.  Our long staple, 100% cotton thread comes in truly elegant colors.  While there are endless numbers of thread and fabric combinations, not all of them work well together.  Allow us to assist you in choosing combination.  Keep in mind that while the thread may look extremely bold on the spool, it is stitched in single lines and will appear more subdued on the actual quilt.

Deposit and Payment

Elegant Counterpanes requires an initial deposit on all quilts prior to scheduling the order.  We accept cash, personal checks and money orders.    Note: initial deposits are not refundable.  Because each quilt is custom made, the deposit fee is kept to cover materials purchased and time spent on your order even if you cancel.  Once your quilt is completed, we will contact  you to arrange final payment and pickup/shipping.

Scheduling

The time it takes to create an heirloom quilt for you varies from one to six months depending on the size of the quilt and our work schedule.  Because each one is individually made, you can be sure that your quilt is unique and professionally stitched.  Be sure to allow sufficient lead time when ordering your quilt.  When your order is confirmed, we will give you an estimated completion date.

Shipping

Elegant Counterpanes ships either USPS Priority Mail or FedEx .  All orders are insured, require a delivery signature and become the responsibility of the customer at shipping.  We ship only within the U.S.  If you purchase more than one item at a time, the order will be shipped when completely filled.  If you wish one item shipped ahead of the other, appropriate shipping & handling fees will apply to each shipment.  While gift wrapping is not available, we will ship gifts to addresses you specify noting that signature will still be required upon delivery.
